Slipknot's Corey Taylor & Shawn Crahan Launch 'Living Breathing Films'!

The members of Slipknot have always been known for pushing their creative envelopes to the limit via original, uncompromised, and very honest artistic works! When we heard that vocalist Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour) and percussionist Shawn Crahan (Slipknot) were forming a film production company we knew that were not going to be producing Hollywood style films. You may be familiar with Slipknot's filmography, and if not here is a rundown:

- We Sold Our Souls for Rock 'n Roll (Documentary, released in 2001)
- 'Disasterpieces' (Music video, released in 2002)
- 'Voliminal: Inside the Nine' (Video documentary, released in 2006)

Next Saturday, January 21, Taylor and Crahan, along with Sanctuary5B Artist Management, will hold a press conference, launch party and rare acoustic performance for attending media, festival-goers and select fans at The Carhartt Backcountry Club (Treasure Mountain Inn in Park City, Utah) to discuss the exciting film projects heading for production this year.

The collaboration between Taylor and Crahan, is called 'Living Breathing Films' and they have announced that they will be attending the Sundance Film Festival to announce upcoming projects. Here is what they had to say about this:

"We're heading to Sundance to connect with the industry since we're now actively looking for TV and film submissions," Shawn states. The company's first film is already in development with Corey and Shawn, both of whom are giving input to the script. Taylor promises, "It'll be very psychological. It's a study in 'Did my eyes see what I think they saw?' It's definitely going to stir the pot and get the world talking. Those are the best movies."

"We've done it before — we're equipped to do it again," Crahan says. "Sit back and enjoy the next level of our art and vision."

BORKNAGAR Completes NEW Studio Album! Album Title & Release Dates Announced!

Norwegian Avant-garde Metallers BORKNAGAR have finalized mixing duties for their upcoming studio album with Jens Bogren at acclaimed Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Paradise Lost, Katatonia, etc.) in Sweden, and they have now checked-in to announce that the long awaited NEW effort will be titled 'Urd' and is to be released on March 26th, 2012 in Europe as well as March 27th, 2012 in North America via Century Media Records.

BORKNAGAR's mastermind Øystein G. Brun has checked-in with the following message:

"Well, our new album 'Urd' was finished in mid-December and all in all we spent about 6 months to record, produce and mix it. In the 'Bork-World' this isn't really long, but I can assure you that we have never before invested so much time, energy and effort into one single production. It has been a tough, yet inspiring ride. Since June 2011 I have constantly been working with this album, recording, editing and so forth - day and night. The same goes for my comrades, never before have we made an album where everybody in the band has been so heavily involved and dedicated as this time around. 'Urd' is surely the peak of our musical journey so far and we are extremely proud to have made this giant of an album! It's massive, it's emotional, it's fast, it's slow, it's epic, and it's progressive...all the ingredients that we have crafted our musical world on! And not to mention the 'golden threesome' on vocals (Vintersorg, Mr. Vortex and Lazare) really shines on this album...Do I need to say more?!"

Furthermore, he explains the album title within the band's historical context as follows:

"Our previous album was called 'Universal' and where should we go after an album title with such a magnitude? Well, we decided to head back home to earth. We really wanted to get back to the core of the band, where it all started - the admiration and pondering about nature and mankind's place therein. 'Urd' is the name of one of the norns that according to northern mythology stands under Yggdrasill and weaves the lifeline of mankind. 'Urd' is representing the past, while 'Verdande' is representing the present and 'Skuld' is representing the future. You might very well say that this is an ancient expression of what we today know as DNA. And I have always been very fascinated by the fact that parts and bits of our DNA actually derive from the very beginning of time. All living creatures are somewhat connected to the very first organic cell. That is some of the story behind the album title..."

BORKNAGAR is:

- Øystein G. Brun: Clean & Electric Guitars (Cronian, ex-Molested)
- Vintersorg: Grim Vocals, Clean Vocals & Choirs (Vintersorg, Fission)
- Lars A. Nedland: Keys, Clean Vocals & Choirs (Solefald, ex-Carpathian Forest)
- Jens F. Ryland: Lead Guitars (ICS Vortex)
- ICS Vortex: Bass, Clean Vocals & Choirs (ex-Dimmu Burgir, Arcturus, ICS Vortex)
Drums and percussion on 'Urd' were performed by David Kinkade (Soulfly, ex-Malevolent Creation)

BORKNAGAR Live 2012:

- 4/4-7: Oslo (Norway) - Inferno Festival
- 4/13-14 - Lichtenfels (Germany) - Ragnarök Festival

Riot Guitarist Mark Reale Hospitalized! Official Statement Available!

Riot founder and guitarist Mark Reale has been admitted to a San Antonio hospital in critical condition due to complications of Crohn's disease. Subsequently, there is a possibility that he may not appear in the band's upcoming performances in the Northeast and aboard the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise to Grand Cayman. Here is the bands official statement:

"Mark has been battling Crohn's for most of his life, working and performing while enduring almost constant pain and the side effects of treatment for his illness. He was in Texas bravely attempting to practice for the shows, but was felled by a severe onset of Crohn's symptoms leaving him in the Intensive Care Unit at an undisclosed facility.

"The band has agreed that the performances will take place as scheduled with the possibility that Mark may not be well enough in time to appear. Riot would also like to acknowledge that Mark has been struggling with these symptoms throughout the production of their NEW album, 'Immortal Soul', and that guitarist Mike Flyntz recorded a major portion of the guitars on the album with Mark's creative direction while he was unable to perform.

"For this reason, fans can be assured that the show will be as exciting as anything Riot has ever staged, even if Mike needs to hold down double guitar duty. Mark will be sorely missed in this event, but the shows will go on.

"We ask fans and friends of the band to pray for Mark's speedy recovery, and to support the band in our efforts to bring you the Riot reunion shows that have been so long in the making. While Mark's family insists on privacy during this difficult time, your prayers and good wishes will make it to his bedside until he is able to return to the stage.

"Many thanks and Shine On!"

Fear Factory To Release NEW Album This Year - Statement From Dino Cazares Available!

2010 marked the return of the kings of industrial Heavy Metal: Fear Factory. Even though Fear Factory had been an active band during the previous years, once guitarist Dino Cazares left the band in 2002 due to indifference's with vocalist Burton C. Bell, the Factory was missing its riffmanufacturer and the fans knew that something was not right. Thankfully for all Metal aficionados, Burton and Dino reconciled in April of 2009.

For the NEW breed of Fear Factory, Bell decided to fire Herrera and Olde Wolbers due to creative differences. Fans were shocked at first, but once Bell hired master skins man Gene Hoglan, the excitement for the NEW era Fear Factory took over the Heavy Metal community.

On February 9, 2010, Fear Factory damaged ear drums with the release of 'Mechanized': a hard hitting extremely powerful album. The impact of the record was huge, and was considered "album of the year" by various media outlets.

Dino Cazares has announced that there is a NEW Fear Factory in the works, here is what he had to say about this:

"Yes there is another Fear Factory CD in the works and it should be out late April."

Get excited, and stay tuned for more updates!

Tony Iommi Updates Fans On His Current Condition & Future Plans!

Earlier this week, the Heavy Music world was shocked with the sad news that legendary Heavy Metal guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphocytes (a type of cell that forms part of the immune system). Iommi (63) and his doctors are currently working on the best treatment possible-the “IRON MAN” of Rock N' Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery. Here is a statement from Tony Iommi:

"My fans, friends & colleagues - I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much. Well it's not what I wanted for Christmas, that's for sure, but now I can't wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment. It's really good that the guys are coming over so that we can continue working on the album as things are going great in the studio. Well, not much else to say at this time, so thanks again. Bless you all"

Riotgod Announce North American Tour!

Riotgod's sophomore album 'Invisible Empire' will be released in a little over three weeks via Metalville Records. In conjunction with the album's release, Riotgod has just confirmed a string of North American tour dates which can be found below.

Riotgod began in spirit through the conversations of Monster Magnet's Bob Pantella and Jim Baglino while out on tour as early as 2006.

While touring with Monster Magnet provided them with some great times and afforded them the opportunity to perform around the world, each communicated a desire to express their own musical ideas.

During their time off the road, the pair began exploring the possibilities of creating their own band . Bob began to lay down some ideas to get the ball rolling come 2007.

Bob while recording ideas that would become many of the songs on Riotgod's first CD, also sought out musicians that would fill out the guitar and vocal slots for the then nameless band. Contacted first was Garrett Sweeny for guitar.

For the vocals, many possible names had been discussed, including some notable voices familiar via other established bands yet in the end the local New Jersey connection would lead to Mark Sunshine.

Riotgod did its first mini-tour in 2009, hitting the road with fellow New Jersey rockers The Friends of Bill Wilson. Riotgod would visit the US mid-west and Canada, playing venues such as Chicago's Double Door, Detroit's Blondies, Toronto's Bovine Sex Club as well as some lesser known colorful establishments along the way.

Riotgod is now back - with their second album. More straight, more Rock, more stoner - more Riotgod.

Lita Ford Inks Deal With SPV/Steamhammer & Reveals NEW Album Title!

Legendary female Metal icon Lita Ford has signed a worldwide deal with SPV/Steamhammer. Her NEW album entitled 'Living Like A Runaway' is tentatively set for a May 2012 release. Best known for her work with The Runaways and her solo career, featuring hit singles "Kiss Me Deadly" and the Billboard charting duet "Close My Eyes Forever" with Ozzy Osbourne, Lita is ready to make a return to the throne as the queen of Metal:

"SPV gets who I am, my work, and what it takes to bring this project to life. I'm very excited to have them on my team," says Lita.

Lita also spoke about her work with Gary Hoey on the album and the meaning of the album's title:

"Gary Hoey and I wanted to approach this record by getting back to basics. We want to strip away all the electronics and plug-ins and keep it to vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Going back to basics is going back to what Punk, Metal and The Runways was for me.

"'Living Like A Runaway' means freedom and empowerment. To do what I want and to pursue my dreams while answering to no one."

SPV A&R Representative/Product Manager Olly Hahn commented on the signing of Lita Ford:

"When I bought "Dancin' On The Edge" back in 1984 I never thought that I would ever sign Lita Ford to a label. But a dream of mine came true and it's a huge honor for us at SPV/Steamhammer to have one of the leading women in Rock N' Roll on our label."

Corrosion Of Conformity Unleash Three NEW Tracks!

Candlelight Records, together with partners Decibel Magazine and Pitchfork Media, are premiering today songs from the forthcoming NEW album from C.O.C. Produced by John Custer, the self-titled album is the first NEW recording from the North Carolina-based band in six years and is the first to feature material written by the esteemed 'Animosity' trio in over a decade.

Available now for listening, Decibel Magazine is streaming “The Doom” while Pitchfork Media is streaming the album’s closer “Time Of Trials.” Each song showcases the band’s unique sound and continued commitment to diversity. Guitarist Woody Weatherman says, “…too much pork for just one fork,” when discussing the unusual two-song launch. “I like the idea of having two tunes premiering at the same time,” he continues. Vocalist/bassist Mike Dean notes, “I slipped in a rough form of ‘The Doom’ on Full Metal Jackie's radio program back in early November. This is now the official premiere in its finished form. And with Pitchfork playing ‘Time Of Trials,’ we are excited and await fan reactions."

Nate Hall (USX Mainman) To Release Solo Album!

USX guitarist/vocalist/wordsmith Nate Hall will release his first solo record this Spring via Neurot Recordings. Titled, 'A Great River', the ten-track opus offers up a lush landscape of sonic richness. Recorded in March 2011 by Travis Kammeyer at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee, A Great River features the pastoral artwork of Dark Castle's Stevie Floyd (as seen above).

Commented Hall on his latest musical journey: "This record was something I needed to do. I didn't really plan on it, but it helped me to get rid of a lot of bad dreams. Feelings that pulled me down. Things that I would not carry around with me anymore. It helped me to put the past behind me. Now I can look to the future."

'A Great River' is as pure and honest as music gets. The songs are regretful of the bad times, hopeful of times to come, and respectful of the great power that causes all thing to be. It is a reflection of a lifetime spent with the echoes of Dylan, Young, Petty, Springsteen, and Van Zandt. It draws from the rich musical history of America, the melancholy of Appalachia, and harnesses the electric vacuum roar of guitar slingers past and present.

'A Great River' Track Listing:

01. The Earth In One Cell
02. Dark Star
03. Kathleen
04. Night Theme
05. Chains
06. To Wake And Dream
07. Raw Chords
08. Electric Night Theme
09. When The Stars Begin To Fall
10. A Great River

'A Great River' will be released in the UK on May 7, 2012 and the US on May 8, 2012 via Neurot Recordings.

Instrumental Quartet Pelican Announce NEW EP!

Thunderous post-instrumental outfit Pelican have announced the long awaited follow-up to their sprawling 2009 full length 'What We All Come To Need', a NEW four song EP 'Ataraxia/Taraxis' to be released via Southern Lord on April 10th.
